Another Update!

There's not a whole lot to report from Will.  He's settling in and has been acclimating to the heat. He's happy to report that he is staying well and really felt like he got some things accomplished this last week.  He says he was able to finish the electrical for the new dental clinic, putting in electrical outlets and finishing lights, etc.   Hot and tired... working on air conditioning He also ran conduits on the roof to bring power and helped troubleshoot a few other little things (air compressors, battery backups, some electrical hook-ups, etc). Some of the conduit Besides the work, he says what he enjoys the most is talking with some of the workers.  He says, "Sharing their thoughts about working for the hospital, Adventist church, American politics, visa programs, COVID, the current condition in Haiti is very interesting.  They also seem very curious about my opinions and views.  These are fun and illuminating conversations and it also sho...

The First Week in Haiti

The engineer at work! The first week in Haiti started with a VERY long day of travel.   Will flew from Miami into the capitol, Port au Prince, Haiti. The arrival was "smooth but interesting" he says. "It took over $100 in cash to get out of the airport after paying tips, visa, fees, transport, etc."  He was able to leave his bags with a local Adventist man who took them ahead to the hospital. Then Will took a taxi to the domestic terminal and flew to the western part of Haiti and drove 3+ hours in an ambulance to reach the hospital. They had to take this long route to avoid 7 miles of roads with bad gang activity.  So, even though it was a long day of travel it did allow him to see more of the country! Will's first view of Haiti from the air The front gate of the Adventist hospital The hospital viewed from the front gate He was welcomed with a very nice surprise! "Accommodations WAY better than I expected!" says Will.  "My own small house with a r...

Seattle Fun Break Will gave a brief report on his time in the Pacific Northwest between Cuba and heading to Haiti. He says, "I had an 8-day break after flying back from Cuba.  I got to Seattle on Friday, visited my Great-Aunt Friday afternoon and spent the night in a cute Victorian-era hotel on the Olympic Peninsula.  I attended church on Saturday then picked up three college friends on Saturday night.  We kept pretty busy during the week being tourists." A great hike with great friends He says they went to the zoo, aquarium, Pike Place Market, Seattle Space Needle, and visited the Chihuly Glass Museum. The group of four engineers successfully mastered an escape room, hiked on Mt. Rainier, took a Harbor Cruise and dipped into Canada for a visit near Vancouver. They visited the Olympic National Park, explored Fort Worden, toured a train museum and rode the train and also made a visit to an airplane museum.  The week flew by and was a wonderful break with good fr...
